Join teachers Keryl Collard and Hannah Perkins on a journey of self-discovery into the body through Restorative Yoga and experience its healing benefits in this 4-week course.
Take one step towards a more calm, clear and compassionate relationship with your body, heart and mind. Feel layers of tension melt away as you learn to be present with what is happening in each moment.
Whether we know it or not, most of us live with chronic stress which affects our quality of life and compromises the body's innate capacity to heal itself. The more stress we experience, the more its effects compound within us. Taking time out to rest and relax is essential to living well. Based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar, Judith Hanson Lasater and Bo Forbes, this course will offer techniques to help deepen our relaxation response and cultivate mindful attention.
Held for 5 minutes or more, restorative poses are passive and include light twists, seated forward folds and gentle backbends. Each class will typically involve only five or six poses, supported by props to allow your body and nervous system to completely relax and rest. Deep relaxation is a state in which there is little movement or effort can help dissipate stress and restore calm. Through stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system, these classes may help to quiet a busy mind, reduce anxiety, soothe strong emotions, lift depression, promote restful sleep and enhance immunity.
Personalized support in each posture helps minimize muscle contraction between poses, quietening blood pressure, heart rate and brain activity. For people suffering from illness, pain, anxiety or depression, these practices are particularly effective as they encourage us to remain present with whatever's happening, even when it's challenging.
