Technology and our Nervous System Workshop

ITS NOT OUR KIDS FAULT...

If you are a parent, let's dive into the world of filters, body editing, perfection, and expectations of fitting in, based on a reality that's not even real.

See how this not only impacts our autonomic nervous system, sleep, digestion, and energy but plays a HUGE role in the way we talk to ourselves.

'Phone posture' alone is training our bodies to close.

A closed body is a body that doesn't feel safe.

When we don’t feel safe, our self-talk starts to head downhill.

Big tech plays a huge role in why we are seeing such heightened mental health issues stemming globally. Big tech has changed significantly since the "world wide web" our brains have not.

Johan Hari quotes " Our attention span in todays world is now less than a fish at 8.23 seconds"

When we are constantly bombarded with apps, social media (research states that the average 12–17-year-old us up to 7 hours a day), school and expectations we can easily become stressed, anxious and reactive.

This over time, with hours spent editing, perfecting, and filtering our photos, leads us into overwhelm, exhaustion, and shutdown.

We tap out.

Become dissociated, numb, and lack respect for ourselves and others.

IT'S NOT OUR KIDS' FAULT AS TO WHAT THEY (and us) ARE EXPERIENCING

Unable to learn

Lack of sleep

Anxiety and stress disorders

Phone posture

Poor balance and proprioception

Negative self-talk

Lack of eye contact or connection

Inability to make decisions or have clarity.

Let's talk and have a real discussion in an interactive, playful, and informative workshop with a 30 min down regulation practice at the end.

Meg shares from lived experience of nearly three decades living in a state of shutdown and reactivity from nearly three decades of disordered eating.

In her book, Watch YA Language, Meg had to learn and understand her body from the inside out to rewire her brain and retrain her nervous system to change well practiced patterns and behaviors.

Understanding our brain and ANS gives us an understanding of our pre-programmed patterns of reactivity, stress and overwhelm. Incorporating Stephen Porgess' Ph.D Polyvagal Theory, which unravels the hierarchy in which our nervous system operates, and the hand model of the brain from Dr Daniel Siegel (mindsight) we can see the relationship between the brain, body, or thoughts and nervous system.

This, in conjunction with the BE HERE Method Meg speaks about in Watch YA Language, combines together effortlessly to give us tools to move forward with presence so we can choose again.

When we can recognise where we are in our bodies, the quicker we are able to return back to an equanimous (ventral vagal) state, the place of social engagement and presence.

This workshop is ideal for parents and teens who are battling with the ever-demanding pressures of social media, phone addiction and dysfunction in the mind and body.

A healthy body and mind must start from within.

All welcome from 13 and up - Video practice and Workbook supplied.

25% from each ticket sold will be going to the Please Stay Foundation. Helping teens recover from the brink. I am a huge advocate for this important charity who are doing amazing things for our teenagers in Australia.
